At the Historic Colonial Theater Sacramento, California The show began with Tommy Tsunami and Sir Samurai coming to the ring and running down some of the featured matches. They also gave out a few of the Year End Awards. Since I do not remember what the order was and do not want to leave anybody out, here are the results of all the awards that were announced during the show.... Wrestler of the Year: Dante.... Tag Team of the Year: The Beautiful People.... Rookie of the Year: The Sacramento Dragon... Match of the Year: Straight to Hell match with Bulldog Brian Raymond and The Big Ugly JD Bishop.... Ring Announcer of the Year: SirSamurai ... Manager of the Year: Shane Dynasty.... Most hated wrestler: Dante...and finally Favorite Wrestler: El Flaco Loco. Now the first match was scheduled to be Hunk Golden, with Madison, vs Wicked but Madison came out and announced that Hunk was injured and thus could not wrestle, so she went out and found somebody else... Malachi, a new comer to the SPW ring. First Match: WICKED vs MALACHI (w/Madison) Malachi was much bigger then Wicked and thus had a decided strength advantage, though Wicked was able to get in some good offense. In the end it was Malachi's strength over Wicked's speed as the newcomer got the win. Second Match: "The Lost Boy" BILLY BLADE vs "The Trendsetter" ADAM THORNSTOWE EXTREME TITLE NUMBER ONE CONTENDER'S MATCH: On many an indie show this would have certainly been the match of the night as it was so good... but the whole card was good on this night and thus it is too hard to pick just one match as the match of the night. The two men, who teamed just last week, started off respectful of each other but by the end the competitive juices were flowing and both men were doing whatever it took to get the win and the title shot. Unfortunately the time limit expired and thus the match was ruled a draw. Thornstowe hit the Trendsetter Frogsplash following the bell for good measure, but the two were able to work out their differences following the match, and shake hands. Third Match: JESUS "The Brownsnake" CRUZ vs RABIA vs SHANE DYNASTY THREE WAY DANCE: Poor Shane.... maybe it was his mouth before the match, or just his history in SPW, but Cruz and Rabia actually worked together to take Shane out of the match first. It then appeared as though Cruz and Rabia were joining up, but it was all a trick by Cruz, who clotheslined Rabia. Cruz went on to get the win in the stiff match. Fourth Match: EVEN STEVE CURRIE vs THE SACRAMENTO DRAGON The former official, Currie, had a very strong showing against the always strong Dragon (who appeared even stronger then usual when he came out as Scott Steiner, sporting freakishly giant arms). Despite the fact that this was one of Currie's first matches, he got in a lot of offense in the back and forth match, before finally going down to the very successful Sacramento Dragon. Steve had the last laugh, though, attacking Dragon after the match, with a chair, and then putting the masked man into the Rings of Steven. From what I heard back stage Dragon suffered an injury in the attack and will most likely miss the next show. That Steve sure is a little stinker. Fifth Match: DANTE vs HOOK BOMBERRY EXTREME TITLE/SUBMISSION MATCH: Hook, who made his debut last week, looked great in the ring with Dante as the two men exchanged stiff shots and submission holds, move for move. In fact Hook was even able to get the champion to tap out, but the ref was distracted at the time by Mike Rayne. When Hook broke the hold to confront the ref things went down hill for him and Dante was able to get him into a unique hold and the PWI wrestler tapped out. Hook appears to be a strong addition to the SPW roster and will hopefully be returning in the future. SIXTH MATCH: PSYCHO SETH vs VENNIS THE MENACE APW SHOWCASE MATCH: At last week's show these two were involved in a tag team match and this week they got their chance to shine in singles competition and they did not fail to deliver. The crowd, who tends to be heel friendly from time to time, appeared to warm up to the villain, Seth, and turn on the good guy Vennis. My guess.... Vennis is just too clean cut for them. Regardless, the guys did a solid job and certainly proved that they are solid additions to the SPW roster and the indie scene in general. In the end it was Vennis that got the win, though I do not recall how. Seventh Match: SCOTT LOVE and "Ridiculous" MIKE RAYNE vs LUSTER THE LEGEND and JON JON the PHENOMENON You know how sometimes when you see a wrestler come out for the first time and you lean over to your broadcast partner (or the guy/girl sitting next to you) and you say "I wonder if this guy can wrestle?" I did that when Jon Jon entered the ring.... and about 10 seconds later I had no doubt that Jon Jon could hold his own with anybody in California. I believe the crowd was impressed as well as Jon Jon got a couple of nice chants from the crowd, which says something since this was his first time in front of the SPW crowd. Prior to the match Mike Rayne cut a promo promising that he will start to live up to his nick name and be ridiculous... and he did not disappoint, though I am sure his plans were a bit different. Luster was able to score the pin (on Mike, I believe) and then he put Mike through a table that Scotty Love had set up earlier at ringside (Outsider's Edge style. Ouch). Main Event: THE BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE (w/ Shane Dynasty) vs EL FLACO LOCO and "The Big Ugly" JD BISHOP (w/ Chase) TWO OUT OF THREE FALLS... SPW/NAW TAG TITLE UNIFICATION MATCH: The crowd was into this one, solidly behind the leader of the Lucha Libre Mafia and the SPW Heavyweight Champion. But even with the crowd behind them, it is never easy (and some would say impossible) to slip by Handsome Jack and Clint Douglas, the most successful tag team in Northern California. The first pin went to the NAW champions (Flaco and Ugly) and the second to The Beautiful People. In proof that Jack,Clint, and Shane always have a plan the ref got distracted which allowed Dante to come out and take down Ugly, leading to a Beautiful People victory. Man, if the Feature Presentation and the Biggest Daddy of the All were not cocky enough before this, I am sure doubling their gold will do wonders for their egos. Following the match Dante, with help from the champions, beat down Ugly, grabbed a mic, and demanded a title shot at the Heavyweight Title. Following the beat down Ugly had to be helped from the ring. |
